The love that I have is all that I have
and that love that I have is yours.

The life that I have from the love that
I have is yours, yours, yours!

This goes on but I cannot remember the rest of it

It was written during World War 2. The poem was composed by Leo Marks who worked in the Coding Section of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the war.

The life that I have
The life that I have is all that I have
And the life that I have is yours
The love that I have of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.
A sleep I shall have, A rest I shall have
And death will be but a pauseFor the years I shall have in the long green grass
Are yours and yours and yours. The life that I have is all that I have
The life that I have is yours
The love that I have of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.A sleep I shall have, A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause
For the peace of my years in the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours.
The love that I have is all that I have
And the love that I have is yours
The life that I have is all that I have
And the love that I have of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours. The sleep I shall have, in the death I shall have, is yours
For the peace that I have in the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours

Well the poem was certainly used in the film Carve Her Name With Pride but whether or not it's the one you're thinking of I don't know.

The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have is yours.
The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.
A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause.
For the peace of my years in the long green years
Will be yours and yours and yours."

And incidently, the poem that was written by Leo Marks was actually a coded message and had been adapted from the real poem in order to convey the message to the SOE (Special Operations Executive).

I think this is the poem you are looking for, particularly if you look at the end paragraph. Please let me know if I am right.

To: You.

So time is all we have. It is true - time is a healer, although the separation makes the time that passes, and the time ahead, unbearable if I reflect too much on the time we had.

When the unbearable pain finally diminishes and time moves on, the emotion which was so intense and felt so right, almost divine, is hard to let go of as I relive it in my mind. Only time comforts me as I console myself that the path I chose, was chosen and reliving time is not a choice.

So here I am, in a strange place, alone in my emotions, unclear if my choices were truly my own. It is hard to understand if any of what I know I felt was a figment of my mind, a desire to fulfil some selfish need or to please those who prayed on my weakness.

My spiritual self needs to believe, that when you feel it, so unquestionably, it is true. That nothing can penetrate the soul if not true in its purpose. Yet from somewhere, something tells me that if you want to believe so intensely that something is true, you create it. These are the darkest thoughts I have of something I think I will never be able to replicate. These dark moments consume me, the fear of what lies ahead for me as a result of being so foolish and following the wrong path. I ask forgiveness for myself over and over again and vow never to go there again – yet every day I am there in my mind, feeling, seeing and then quickly I lapse into the darkness, when I imagine that what I felt was all untrue.

If this was true, then why am I being tortured? The silence is killing me slowly – ever so slowly? Yet the greatest fear I have is for the silence to be broken and the emotions to return in real time. Why did I allow myself to love so completely when time passes so quickly and repeatedly shows me that my love never dies, but somehow, in many different ways those I love, do.

The love that I have is all that I have and the love that I have is yours. The love I have of the life I shall have is your and your and yours. I remember these words so clearly and how truly they reside in my head when in the end it says – and death shall be but a pause. One day. Maybe when time pauses, I will know the truth.

From: So what?

By way of dedicating 'Flood Tide'to Marie Christine, I quoted on the opening page, a coded poem written for Violet Szabo, a British Agent captured by the Nazi's in France. The poem is dear to us. Imagine the desperate terror of capture and torture for risking all, simply for what you believe in.

'The Love that I have is all that I have and that love that I have is yours But the love that I have of the life that I have is yours and yours and yours. A sleep I shall have and a rest I shall have and Death shall be but a pause, For the rest of my years, in the long green grass, shall be yours and yours and yours.'

Leo Marks wrote it about his girlfriend Ruth Hambo who was killed in a plane crash in Canada.
Hope that helps.

... and, as usual, I typed that so slowly that somebody else has already said it.
