I wanna go to New England (and abroad fairly soon too). It's not as fun as with someone. But is travelling alone worth it at all?

I use to work for the airlines and I traveled around the world by myself.... I had alot of fun with me...No one else could ever get the time off that I could get... I never told anyone that I was alone.. Never.. Even if I trusted them 100% . That was my rule.. I would always say my mom or my boyfriend was in the hotel room and I was suppose to call them in an hour. Sometimes I would pretend to make calls to them. I never knew if somebody would tell another person who wasn't 100% trustworthy..So I watched my back in that regard... I always loved going to Oahu and do all the shopping.. Everything was on my schedule, my time and my wants and desires. If you like yourself then its no problem to take yourself places and venture out.. Don't be scared.. Go and enjoy yourself

Depending on how you act, I suppose, you are perfectly ok traveling alone. I've traveled abroad and domestically alone, and enjoyed it alot. It gets a bit lonely, especially when you see something interesting and can't say "oh, look at that!". But it also forces you to talk to other tourists/locals, and maybe make a few friends that you might not have made if you were with someone else. I always would perk my ears and listen for American accents, wanting someone from home to chat with occasionally!
Use common sense, and get into your accomodations early so you aren't out on the streets alone at night.
If you are uncomfortable eating alone in restaurants, you can always buy food at grocery stores and make yourself a little picnic. Sandwich shops are everywhere!
Have fun. What's the best with traveling alone is that you can spoil yourself and only look at what really interests YOU!!

I have traveled alone all over the US and to at least twenty different countries since 1971, and love it. It is far more fun to be alone: after all, you've already talked to your friends, but I guarantee you have never talked with 99.99% of the people you'll meet in the rest of the world, and they might be far more interesting. If you don't share a common language, it doesn't actually matter much; you can still communicate perfectly well.

Besides, alone you don't need to vote on where to go, where and what to eat, when to get up and go to sleep. You can do anything you want to do, completely spontaneously. You really can take the road less traveled by, and make a lot of wonderful and hilarious memories on the way. And maybe a lot of new friends, as well.

I agree that it's safer and more fun with someone, but I wouldn't delay a vacation just because I didn't have someone to travel with. I travel alone all the time - domestically and internationally - and I just stay more aware of my surroundings and avoid any places that have a sketchy feel to them.

I've actually found that I'm more open to new experiences and reaching out to locals when I'm not traveling with someone. If I'm with a friend, I lean on them for all my conversation and entertainment. It's usually when I'm not with someone and I'm forced to ask locals where to go and what to do that I've learned more about the area and maybe even made a new acquaintance.

Just use common sense along the way and you'll have a great time.

If you are careful and notice your surroundings, I travel alone, I agree that it is not as much fun with someone, especially if they are miserable anyway. I just got back from a trip this past weekend. I know you can have alot more fun by yourself and that is why I love to travel alone. Best of luck and be careful.

Yes, I did that recently....I drove from California to Arizona by myself for a weekend getaway and I have never done that before. It was fun to rent a car, and drive through the desert and see all the interesting things along the way. The only thing I would have done different is camp, but it was just too hot for that!! Staying in a hotel is kind of boring, so you have to find something that would make it interesting and fun for yourself.

i recently travelled alone to the Outer Banks of NC.I think you should use good common sense...but its not too dangerous..Let someone have your iternary and numbers where you can be reached. Have your mechanic check your car for potential problems before you leave
And if you have a "strange " gut feeling pay attention to it
