because when there was war women had to go to work, and when they went to work they didnt want to leave, i love working, and i am happy the women of the past did what they did,

i think that during the industrial revolution there was a rapid growth in industry and therefore more jobs available and a demand for more people to work. this meant that there were more than enough jobs for the men and an existing demand which made way for women to work also.
Also during the industrial revolution in Britain there was a sudden development of the textile industry with the invention on a new spinning loom called the spinning jenny. Women generally dominated this industy so when this new technology came about, Britain became a leading exporter which meant that there was a higher demand for their textiles and therefore a greater demand for female workers.
in saying that, the more significant change in job roles changed during WW2 since the men left for the war leaving a huge gap in industry!
