First of all, lie detectors don't work. They are one of the biggest scams.

Lie detectors detect mental trauma, emotions. When some people lie, it bothers them, or they are scared they will get caught, and that causes a reaction.

Lots of other things cause a reaction. If someone mentions a word that brings back bad memories, or other emotional trauma, that will also act like a lie also.

For example, if someone attacked you and beat you, and you defended yourself, and were asked who started the fight, you would say "the other guy", and you would have an emotional reaction from the attack, and it might look like a lie.

Because of this, the results of lie detectors tests cannot be used as evidence in courts.

What often happens, is that it is a trick, the guy giving the test has you sign a release form in advance, and it has some blank spaces on the other side where he writes in that you confessed.

There are control questions that will measure your stress level. When they ask questions which you need to lie just think of something else and answer accordingly.
They will also ask questions which might throw you off. The question comes out of left field. They will ask the normal questions then, bang, ask a question like "Did you come here today planning to lie?" Catches you off guard. This is where they might detect lying.

If you're telling the truth, then it's easy as pie...but the lie detector detects both heart rate and sweat production, so you have to be in complete control of both of these in order to fake it...

Honestly, it is not difficult at all! You want to lie down and take the test, you may not pass!

All of you have to do is be able to control every little twitch in your body as you answer the questions. Very hard if not impossible for most people I would suspect.

Stay calm and give short answers that is what I have been told. So if that holds true must be pretty easy.
