Ok, here's the thing. I want to get on the internet but don't want to pay for a seperate phone line. Is there any way that I can use my parent's phone line for the internet without tieing up their phone so they can still get phone calls. Someone told me there was something you could buy at walmart. Do any of you know what it may be & if it is possible?
Thanks!

4 letters. ADSL! it uses your phone line but piggybacks the signal in a frequency range that is not used by the normal telephone, hence you can still use the line for calls and internet, ok?

Well, in Australia if you have broadband, then you only need the one phone line because data and voice use different frequencies on the same line. Not sure if this is the same in the USA but I would suspect it is.

Solutions:

1. Get a 'teen' line! Contact your phone company.
2. Get DSL so everyone is online, and phone is always available.
3. Get cable broadband.

It is quite possible with DSL, where the net is connected thru a modem and a splitter from a telephone line, making both option possible.

They use to sell a certain device that would function in that matter, but I do not think they sell them anymore due to braodband internet being so popular now.

At least the store I go to all the time has not had them in a long time.
