I think any age could be the best depending on your attitude. When I look back on my life, I enjoyed being 4 and 22. I loved being 4 because I got to stay home and play, no school and no huge responsibilities. I loved 22 because of the independence I had. I was out of college, had my own apartment, and my first salary job.
A lot of my 65-80 year old friends say 40-50 is the best age because your kids are grown and you and your husband can have the house to yourself again plus you get to start enjoying grandkids and you are healthy and active enough to get around and enjoy life without pain. Of course, I'm not even 30 yet, so I'm not sure that 40-50 would really be such a great age.

71. At this age you have lived through the industrial revolution and now in the information age. You can trace back in time all the world's great advances and realize you were once part of it. You have acquired an enormous amount of knowledge and maturity and have established yourself as a part of your community. You have raised a family and have assisted in their development and when they turn out OK, you experience joy like no other. You no longer fear death, for you know you have done the right things in life. It's a legacy that few are able to attain, but when it is attained, then life is great.
As an aside, being 71 also means I won't have to cope with the future woes of the world as demonstrated by the world in conflict, the ecology issue, the energy problem and the never ending race issue. I do feel bad about my heirs as they will have to learn to cope with it.

There is no "best age" in my opinion, it all depends on the person and their personal experiences.

I'd pick from 21 to about 28. You can drink, smoke, and rent a car. After that it, all starts going downhill.
