will all the multiple answers you get... some way off i might add... HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU GOT THE RIGHT ANSWER IF YOU DON'T WORK OUT THE PROBLEM YOURSELF ? and if you have to work out the problem to see which is the right answer... WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST DO IT TO BEGIN WITH???????

Some of those asking (for homework) might want the idea of how to solve the problem, first. They will not care about the correctness of the answers, as long as they know by then how to solve the problem. But those who ask for the "answers" for their homework without even trying to understand the solution are the ones that do not want to learn.

If I were the ones who answer math questions posted here, I will try to see if those asking for (homework) help are eager to learn, before I answer their question.

I agree with you...

There is an old saying: "There is safety in numbers" or "There is safety in the multitude of counselors".

I think that in most cases, people are able to arrive at the correct answer although I have seen some accept wrong answers. These are in a clear minority. In their case, I don't think it would make a difference since their thought processes are all wrong to begin with.

Many students do this after they have actually done their homework - it is a means of checking that they have done the correct homework or are on the right path. Not all teachers and lecturers provide solutions, so students have nothing to compare their efforts against. Thus you are providing a service which lecturers are failing to do even though this is clearly part of their job and they are being paid for it! Certain lecturers refuse to mark students' work. Furthermore, lectures presented on the subject are so elementary and the students are not properly prepared to deal with the exercises which are substantially more difficult than material presented in a lecture. Reason, lecturers are generally lazy and don't like taxing their brains more than they have to! Again some lecturers will not allow questions during a lecture.

In my time, this was not so, but I do feel sorry for today's youth - they are faced with exceptional challenges in the form of incompetent teachers/lecturers and/or indifferent attitudes from the same. It's a shame!

I guess that asking the question is like brainstorming at the office.

If you think long enough you would probably come up with the solution yourself but it's quicker to get lots of brains working on it.

You would still evaluate all the answers and only use the best.

John Paul Getty once said "I would rather have 1% of a hundred peoples efforts than 100% of my own" and he was pretty successful.
