If you REALLY want cheap, try something a bit different.

Getting in a car and camping in France is cheap; even cheaper in Scotland or the Lake District. You'll probably be able to borrow a tent and sleeping bag. Not Italy or Greece - but it's cheap.

If you go to Scotland; try the Isle of Skye, or anywhere along the west Coast (Within reason).

If you want to know more about what's need for camping - ask another question.

Youth Hostels are good, as are backpackers.

You should be able to use something like Expedia.co.uk to get you a cheap flight - pick you time, go mid week for example. Explore your options. Looking a few hours outside of peak travel time makes a huge difference - and don't travel on half term.

The Youth Hostel in Barcelona's nice and in a relatively good location. Flights should be well cheap.

Another option which tends to be a bit cheaper is looking at a walking holiday - say I Crete. Explore do one, as does Exodus. £500/600 (Plus oncosts) will get you 8 days walking in some pretty funky places - tho this may not be as cheap as you were thinking of.

I'm pretty cycnical of the Lastminute places. If I want cheap - I do it all myself, though this takes a good while, you can save yourself some cash.

Book a flight from Heathrow to Bombay in India for £299 return (on the internet), then a flight with spicejet.com from Bombay to Goa for about £25 return.
You will ave great weather, and can buy a beer for about 50pence, and have a fantastic meal for just over £1, and you could stay in a small guest house for under £10 a night. I tried a few websites recently, and a holiday advertised at £200 tured out to be just under £500 with taxes, fuel surcharge.....
Best of luck

Easyjet is great. They do hotels as well now which are pretty good as far as rates per night go, and around the beginning of September they often have an end of summer sale.

For a similar holiday but much more affordable, go to Croatia or Bulgaria. You can have a lovely seaside vacation there.
