As I live alone with my son it takes a few days to get a load full of whites. These were in the bottom of the washing basket for a few days till I had a full load, but i'd absent mindedly put a wet towel on top, now about £250 worth of white clothes have dark patchy damp spots on. I have washed them on a 90 degree wash twice and although improved they have not gone. How do I get rid of them????

Try Vanish Oxy Action. This may remove some marks but not all most of your clothes are more than likely irrepairably marked. The only other thing to try is taking them to the dry cleaners as these people have more tricks up there sleeves when I comes to stains

it's probably mildew and there is little you can do it get it out. Try to let them soak in 10% bleach 90% water solution for a few hours. Since they are white it probably will not affect the coloring. After that toss them into a hot wash (super or heavy soiled cycle if you have it) to break up any reamining mildew.
PS thanks for reminding me to put the clothes in the dryer!

try using bleach and hot water. It probably still won't get rid of all the black but should help...

In the future try this, any time you have a wet clothing item, towel or shirt or anything damp, leave it on top of the hamper until it dries, then put it inside the hamper with the rest of the clothes...

Good luck...

Ewwwwww, not nice.
As your son lives with you, tell him that he has to re-imburse you for the clothes as it was probably HIS wet towel that caused the damage!

Sounds like mildew; you're going to have to toss the affected garments, as it won't go and will spread to other clothes, as well as eventually starting to smell like cat pee.
