I'm writing to an italian friend and she complains that I don't put an accent above the e, but I would if I could, can anyone help? The problem occurs mainy with the word 'e' which mean 'it is' with an acccent but it means 'and' without one.

If your keyboard setting is US International, first type

` then e for è
' then e for é
" then e for ë
^ then e for ê

etc, etc, etc

Otherwise use ALT-codes, meaning holding the Alt key while typing the number on the Numeric keyboard (with Num Lock on of course)

for an overview of ALT-codes, see the site below

Easiest way I've found is to google the Italian word. Or use google Language Tools.

Copy and paste the "e".

Hold down Alt and press 0233 on the number keypad. é Voila!
Or go to start/system tools/character map for every combination of codes for non standard sybols.

Hold down the ALT key and then press 0200 on your numeric keypad or 0021 depending on the accent direction

I only know how to do this if you are using Word to type the document, if so then go to "Insert" then "Symbol" and you will find the È is in there somewhere..!!

Go into insert, then symbols look through untill you find one you want. It will show you a quick keyboard way at side. this would usually involve ctrl, atl or shift keys.

I don't know what you are typing in, but lots of software will do it automatically, if it knows you are trying to type in Italian. try setting a word proccessor to italian, and then cut and paste it ....

Normally I just go into MS Word and go "Insert" "Symbol" and then find it, and copy and paste it. I have this problem to as my middle name has one above it: é
