The NTDLR file is put on the hard drive when you partition and format a hard drive along with the system volume information folder when using the NTFS file system, if you have 2 hard drives as mentioned it is possible to set the newly formatted hard drive as the master drive to install the O/S onto it, once done you will have 2 drives each with an O/S on it but it will boot from the drive you set as master, when this is done you can copy a complete O/S from the slave drive to either a DVD, a folder on the master drive or both for back up purposes. This is exactly the system I use and can wipe my hard drive and be back on the net in less than 15 Min's :-D , it saves all the time wasted when you have problems as it's so easy to do :-D

Do you have a floppy disk in the floppy drive? That will cause this message.

If you can locate a Windows 98 boot disk (Google "windows 98 boot disk" and you will find several sites that have them available as downloads), try booting from the floppy and selecting the boot with CD-ROM support option.

Once booted, switch to the CD drive (if it is your D drive, you would type d: If it is a different letter, replace the d with the correct letter e: f: etc.)
Then type setup to start the windows XP install

If you can get it to boot from the cd you can do a repair of windows xp Boot to the cd, do not choose recovery console, choose install windws, then on the next screen it will ask you if you want to install fresh or do a repair. Choose repair and it will install all of the system componets but leave profiles and data alone.

You can often find missing files on Internet. If you can't use the computer to get on Internet go to a library or Internet cafe and download the missing file onto a USB memory stick
