does naruto use the frog in the Chunin exams

Not in the Chunin exams exactly. The exams were stopped early when the Sand & Sound Villages attacked. Naruto chased after Gaara and used the Boss Frog then.

No he didn't have to. I don't want to spoil anything but let's just say Naruto learned a lot being around Kakashi and Sasuke. He used the frog while pursuing Gaara and on some of his assigned missions.

Not in the chuunin exams but he suumoned Gamabunta (frog boss) when he fought with Gaara. This was when Orochimaru and his allies (sand) started attacking konoha and then sasuke pursued the sand siblings (gaara, temari, kankuro) but then sasuke couldn't do anything and then gaara was about to to the dessert coffin on naruto when he summoned gamabunta.

no, not in the exam.

he uses it after the fight when they are chasing gaara so that he can defeat the shakuku the one tailed demon (the demon that lives in gaara)
