Unable to enter password on Microsoft start up page?

My elderly father phoned this morning to say he can't get into his desktop as ,although Windows starts, his password is not accepted. He's on broadband & Windows XP. He recently changed his phone - any connection ?? Please help me give him an answer !!

Doubt very much that there's any connection. Safe Mode, Admin, n add another user account or reset the password if you can.
