I got into reading before I knew what I was doing. My parents always read to me and had tons of books around the house. I learned to love books, and trips to the library or bookstore long before I could read on my own.

My favorite genre is historical. I like reading about times and places in the past. It's interesting and you often pick up something about history in the process. I often follow up historical novels with non-fiction books about the same time period to help me find out what in the story was true and what the author had to make up for the sake of the story.

I read mostly for entertainment and escapism, sometimes for education and sometimes even as an alternative to boredom.

My parents read to me as a child 4 or 5. Since they stopped reading after about an hour or so, I had to learn to read so I could go on with the story (they read mainly history and adventure to me) after they'd gone to bed, because they were so interesting and I didn't want to wait until the next night. I got hooked on adventure and history and just kept reading--and I learned so many interesting things. I still like adventure and history, plus biography, even though I am mainly a technically educated person (computers, science). I read because it's enjoyable, I learn a lot (and I try to learn something new every day, which isn't too hard to do), and I'm interested in just about anything, particularly world cultures and the human future. I also am a news addict and read at least 20 to 50 news websites every day.

I really don't know what got me into reading. I just started reading encyclopedias by the age of six. Up to this day, I have reading Non-fiction military novels and techno-thrillers. I currently have ove 130 books on those genre alone.

I read to broaden my knowledge and widen my horizons.

My parents got me into reading. They read to me even while I was still in my mom and continued reading to me until I was old enough to read for myself. One of the best things they could have done for me and for which I am eternally grateful.
I pretty much am into reading every genre except for biographies. Why I don't like biographies I am not quite sure but I just can't seem to get into them.
I like to read because it is an easy and great way to be entertained and educated. You can go anywhere in the world and meet anybody without ever leaving your living room. It's one addiction that is not harmful to your health, since it can be just as easily done outside as inside, you can still get plenty of fresh air and sunshine while doing it and there's no need to be hooked to something that needs electricity to be able to enjoy it.

I liked to read because I wasn't allowed to watch what I wanted on tv and so reading was a great substitute for travelling. I could read anywhere I wanted I didn't have to have electricity, just light. I love mysteries but read most anything I can get my hands on. I read to relax let my mind go a trips to places that I have not gone, yet.

The lady in the next bed at the hospital when I had my appendix removed at age 10. I like fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, thriller, adventure, historical fiction, alternate-earth, history and science and those are basically what I have been reading for the last 48 years. So far I have consumed (intelligently) over 565,000 books.

My fifth grade teacher used to read us books, a chapter before each class.. that's how I got into reading... the whole class kind of did.. that was more than ten years ago and I've been reading everything nonstop since!

I like to read everything, I've read ALOT of contemporary stuff.. but right now I'm into classics and am currently reading Anna Karenin by Tolstoy. I read because I enjoy it.. takes me to another world.. and it's fun -

i actually started reading when i was young , maybe around 6 or 7 or younger, my dad and mom would read to me at night before i would go to sleep. that really helped fuel my wanting to read , i like science fiction, mystery and novels by Jane Austen. i read because when i start i imagine myself in that time or place and reading helps me not think of the bad things that may be going on around me. reading just seems to take me away from everything.

I read fantasy and mystery novels. I think I like to read because it lets me 'escape' from the real world, even if just for a little while. Plus, it's definitely something to talk about with my friends and we'll be 'debating' about it. (oh yeah, I got interested in stories because my father used to read them to me before bed when I was little)

i like realistic novels, which don't necessarily have a "happy ending" i read because i love to write and it gives me inspiration. i don't read all that much because it takes a lot for me to get into a book, but when i find a book i like i can read for hours with ease.
