i have several attractive bath mats from my last apartment, and i'd like to wash them and use them in my new home (i really like the colors). is it easier / smarter to just throw them out and buy new ones, or can i toss them in the washer / dryer (or let them drip-dry)? they're standard carpet-y mats with rubber-y backing. thanks so much! :)

i wash mine all the time. After a while the rubber starts to break apart, but then it gives me an excuse to buy new ones! Just wash them and hang them to dry.

I regularly launder my bath mats, as well as my (linen) shower curtains. It's best to start doing so when they're still new, but it can be done to older ones. It may take several washings for them to come clean. Wash them in cold or lukewarm water in order to preserve the rubber backing (it will be damaged by hot water), and let them drip dry; the heat of a dryer will harm the rubber.

Wash on the gentle cycle with regular detergent, then air dry them.
If you put them thru the dryer they will come out smelling like burnt rubber.

You can put them in the washing machine however it you do it too many times the rubber backing comes off. Or you can soak them in the bath tub and give them a rinse off they'll be fine.

ONLY if they are machine washable, don't even try machine washing, either dry clean them, or wash them manually by a specialist, otherwise you might be surprised by the rubber backing coming out of your carpets in tiny pieces... :(

Wash it mutually with your detergent and upload baking soda or vinegar to the water to freshen and deoderize. additionally, if it does not injury it, upload some bleach to kill the mould. (It feels like there is mould in the backing this is making it odor. ) attempt putting it up after utilising it and spot if that helps. according to hazard allowing it to air dry might end the mould from coming up. If it retains going on, perhaps you need to get a distinct form of tub mat- this is not quite well worth the odor and hassle! only get one in a colour that suits your decor. My bathmat hangs on the tub at the back of the bathe curtain and no on sees it besides!

If you have several, why not try putting one (least favorite) in the washer/dryer and see how that goes?
