if hardware upgrade is required then it would not be worth taking all those pains. pls check hardware specifications. if ur hardware is supported, buy windows xp media centre package and install it. It is a real good thing for multimedia.

You could by windows media centre, use the tv out if it has one, attach the laptop to the surround sound and get a remote. Should do the job

Yes i would start over. As the ideal set up is from the factory, To get the most from the OS you need a fully capable configuration.
It is not reccommended to install yourself.
I have a Dell 6400/e1505 and the Media center is way powerful and cool

Exchange your laptop for a new One with Media centre. Thats the only way.

You would have to cantact your laptop Manufactorer for that, becuse if you use just a ordanary media center installation disk, most of your PC parts wont work...the manufactorer makes special disk for each PC..incase some1 needs to upgrade...so try it out

First buy a PCMIA card based or USB based TV Tuner card.
then buy a media center edition
even while buying the tuner card, the company which you buy a product will give u its software including the driver as well as media center(its own).
i prefer pinnacle PCTv
