It is a bit painful but I compare it to a sunburn for about a day after you get the tattoo. It will depend on where you are getting the tattoo how much it will hurt. I have two tat's one on the back of the shoulder & one on my calf. My wife has three. It was more painful on the areas by the bone (shin bone and chicken wing on back) but it wasn't unbearable. It felt like a sharp jab over and over in the same spot. Outlining and detail hurts more that the application of color also. The most painful spots are over bones, genitalia, and the soft fleshy parts of under arms (for tribals and such). Tattoos are addictive though and if you get one you will want to get more. The real problem is making sure you get a tattoo you want, keep in mind without expensive laser surgery, this will be part of you forever! If you do get one, enjoy, good luck, and make sure you see a portfolio of the tattoo artists work before making a decision, and research their cleanliness. Look for new one time use needles, autoclave cleaning of the guns and a clean comfortable studio.

yes they hurt depending on where you are having them put. on a more fatty part of the body it's not so bad. feels like a million needles poking ink into your body. lol but after it's all done....it is beautiful!

YES THEY DO! I had one 12 years ago and passed out! At first it felt like lots of little scratches and I thought "this ain't so bad" but then the pain kicked in! And please don't do like I did and have a drink beforehand to "calm your nerves"; alcohol thins the blood and can prolong the bleeding.
Check with the tattoo studio first, look at the surroundings (is the place clean. do they use disposable needles, etc.), if you can talk to some of the people who are there getting tattoos, if U can get a referral. Unless you hve nerves of steel, take someone with U when U go. (I did & boy was I glad!) If the studio is any good they won't mind how many questions you ask.
Having said all that, I just wish I could get another one but I KNOW I couldn't take the pain!

It depends where you get them done and how much of a sissy you are! I have four tattoos and 3 piercings, and I have to say that I think the body piercing hurt more. Tattoos kind of feels like carpet burn when you are getting them done and then that dead leg kind of feeling afterwards for a couple of days. Not too bad at all. Just make sure that you get something that means a lot to you, not one of these fashionable ones you will regret later!

it just feels although someone is scratching you over and over again in the same place with many tiny needkes. i no this sounds very painful but dnt worry its not as bad as it sounds. i have a tatoo at the base of my back it took 45 minutes to do and it never really hurt i laughed alot during it. if you are considering geting one i would go for it but be sure you get something origional and take care in deciding what is is and where you get it because it stays with you forever. i am getting another one on my inner wrist soon i cant wait but beware they are super super addictive good luck x

as the first person said, it depends on your acceptance of pain levels. I got my first one last year & I thought it felt just awesome, almost pleasurable, I'm going back next week for another. I can tell you with all honesty & straight from experiance...the "pain" is nothing like child birth! lol
Go for it, you can always ask the tattooist to let you look at the equipment & might even let you feel it without any ink. Not sure if thats permissable around the world, but all you can do is ask!

In the process, you will feel so much pain. And once you have such tattoo, there will come a time that your blood type will be in demand so as to save lives. And you can never ever donate a blood, especially if that someone who will need blood transfusion will be your beloved.

It feels like some is scraping off your skin with a pointy knife, also burning sensation will last for days, it really hurts! Especially on certain parts where there isn't a lot of flesh under your skin, like lower back or ancle.
