Besides the wonderful handmade creations my children have given me the best present I have ever received was from my father. He knew how hard it was for me to maintain our 5 acres property on my own with my husband away with the kids racing motorbikes most weekends. He also knew I wasn't into jewellery or that sort of stuff and that our ride on mower was so old that it didn't work half the time. On my birthday he gave me a new ride on mower. I am not one to usually receive expensive gifts, but the cost wasn't important it was the fact that my dad knew me just so well and knew the one thing I really needed. He died 3 months after my birthday and every time I use that mower I think of him.

Just before my father died he sold the love of his life - his boat. He lived for the freedom of sailing and he was heartbroken to sell his boat once his cancer had made it unsafe for him to sail. So he divided the proceeds between my mother, brother and me. I always felt that I had failed him somehow and didn't really know what to do with the money. Sometime later I had a eureka moment and used his money to start my own business. I felt that he was driving me to succeed and felt his support all through the first year. I now have a very successful business thanks to this gift. I just hope that he can now see what I am doing somehow and wish he could have been proud of me when he was alive.

My kitten, Gloria Patches.

My boyfriend gave her to me a while after my puppy died. I was so sad because the puppy had been "my baby". My bf found the kitten after it's mother had been run over close to his house, and he brought her to me in a cardboard box. he said "Maybe she could be your new baby, she needs lots of love and care". It was just so sweet and thoughtful.

The fact that she cost him nothing doesn't matter at all, it was the fact that he saw her and thought of me, and of cheering me up.

It was really thoughtful.

I must add that my grandparents gave me their car when I passed my driving test - that was a wonderful gift too!

I'm a lucky girl!

When I was 16, and my dad took me to a Rangers-Devils game at Brendan Byrne Arena (It will ALWAYS be Brendan Byrne to me, not Continental Airlines Arena. I hate corporate names), and we actually got to go into the locker room.

A ring that was my grandmother's, and mother's. It is almost 100 yrs old. Another ring that my husband gave me for our anniversary, it was the only ring besides my wedding ring that he ever gave me.
