it depends on how irregular you are talking about & the causes of this irregularity... having them every few months is irregular, but having them every 4-8 weeks or occasionally skipping one isnt really a big deal.

having irregular periods when in your teens or when approaching the menopause is completely normal. lifestyle & stress levels can & does also affect the periods of a usually regular woman.

the biggest problem with irregular periods on fertility is not knowing when, or in some cases, if you are ovulating. as such its best to have sex every 2-3 days to ensure that a fertile window is never missed.

each time a woman ovulates there is a 25% chance that the egg will be fertialsed & implant in the womb sucessfully as long as she is having regular sex. if a woman ovulates less frequently than others, pregnancy may take longer to occour - but it can still happen.

if you are qxperienceing irregular periods your doctors can do hormone blood tests to see if there is a specific problem.
i hope this helps.

Not always, but it depends how irregular. If your periods are, for example - 28, 32, 35, 32, 40, you may not have any trouble getting pregnant at all.

If your periods are really irregular, with months of no period in between, then you may have a problem, like PCOS.

It can be a syptom of polysystic ovaries which is sometimes linked to infertility. However it is easily fixed and if you are worried about infertility get some help as soon as you can as It takes ages through the NHS to get help. Good luck.

I would just like to point out that what resin girl said about Polysyctic Ovaries being "easy to fix" is totally wrong in all accounts.

You can't fix polycystic ovaries, its a condition you have for life and there is no cure.

You can however improve things which may or may not regulate your periods.

They can be. It's best to go to a gynecologist who can check you out and give tests to find out what's causing the irregular periods. Then you can deal with things.
