Lots of benefits to being an engineer. First and foremost to me is the income level. Its a fairly exclusive field so it pays well.
Also depending on your personality and ambitions the field of engineering you choses should interest you. If you love the idea of building structures, maybe civil engineering is for you. My dad was fascinated by chemistry and the reactions of chemicals to the human body so went for Chem Engineering. My brother is an electrical engineer. He wanted to work with robots and the control of them more so. Mechanical works with the development of moving parts usually. I would reccomend looking at one of the local universities websites...engineering department and they can give you an idea of each field. Engineers take issues, think through a solution, design a plan, and follow through to resolve it. Logic is highly important to an engineer. Some creativity, and a lot of dedication.

i can not help in that respect as I am still trying to figure out the job parameters, because everyone I talk to in Yahoo chat is some type of engineer! I'm sure you can google search and that will bring up many websites for careers in engineering.
