Hi there,
As the common consensus goes, plastic tanks are quite easy to scratch but you can buy quite durable ones these days (see links below). The only benefit of plastics are the shapes and sizes you can buy them in. Because they are usually injection molded they look better and weigh less than a glass tank of equivalent size. The glass tanks are however a bit cheaper (unless your buying a monster size one!) and are quite durable (if you lay your polystyrene down) I would just say follow these simple rules and take your pick:-
1) Buy from a reputable manufacturer or dealer
2) Establish what you want to keep in there, If its for some big cichlids go for a glass tank, if its for Siamese fighter get a Betta sphere
3) If you are going second hand do make sure you check for leaks especially plastic ones as they are notoriously hard to seal!

Hope it helps

good luck

Glass is overwhelmingly more popular than plastic for a fish tank or bowl. Once cured, glass sealant releases little or no toxins that I know of into the tank water. I would recommend a new glass fish tank which has been properly cycled through it's high-ammonia and high-nitrite phases before reintroducing your fish to the tank.

I would go for glass. You enjoy looking at your fish only if the view is clear. Plastic can get scratched easily and in long run, some kind of plastic turns a bit blurish.

It does not matter that much.....unless some plastics start disolving in water in reaction to some chemicals you put in water to help the fish which will actually harm the fish. Glass ones are more clear and look more beautiful.

You should buy better glass and be carefull with it. Plastic is defiently not recommended.

depends on what size you need. You only tend to get plastic tanks in smaller sizes, as glass is stronger. It is all to do with stress per square inch etc. For a bigger tank, glass is best, but plastic is cheaper. I would always go with glass.

Yes plastic would be safer but glass looks much nicer and doesn't scratch when its cleaned

plastic scratches way too easily, also plastic will stain when you had certain fish medications if your fish ever get sick heaven forbid! Glass is worth it and most glass aquariums have a warranty against leaks due to manufacturer's defects

No, I'd recommend Glass because plastic scratches!

I'd choose glass. Plastic is less astetically pleasing some would say but they're also the risk of chemicals in the plastic. But choose whats right for you and your situation. :)
