Whole Foods has a list of stores (with locations/zip codes) on their website. If you can get a hold of a Demographic Sourcebook (if you have a good public library or a university library nearby), look up the stats for each zip code (and for neighboring zip codes).

The CACI Demographic Sourcebook is a great one--it's updated every year, and it has lots of info on each zip code in the U.S.

Aside from that, you can look up some zip code info on the Claritas Marketing site (google YAWYL for their zip engine; "YAWYL" means "You Are Where You Live."), and you might try looking for the ESRI site online (they do similar demographic info for zip codes).

The online sources are not as thorough as the paper CACI sourcebook, but they're better than nothing, and they'll let you piece together a profile of the people that Whole Foods is targeting.

Whole Foods Target Market Demographics

You may want to contact the company to find out.

The Whole Foods and it's competitor Wild Oats, are usually in upscale or trendy areas. I have never seen one in a low income neighbor. The prices are expensive also, which is an indicator of who they target income-wise. You may want to do a research against the stores' addresses and the income for that community.

They are suppose to appeal to people who eat healthier and promote earth friendly products. I am stereotyping and assuming that is usually a more educated, health conscious population.

Presently here in TX we don't have access to Whole Foods. But, in other places that we lived we did, like Virginia Beach. So, I shop weekly at Wal-Mart and we would go to Whole Foods once a month to get special stuff and treats, splurge items and get something for dinner there too.
