First civilization on earth were the Mesopotamians, a.k.a Sumerian people. (if my 7th grade history memory serves me right) They were situated between the Tigris and Euphrates river, which I believe is now the country, Iraq.

Actually, the remnants of the oldest civilisation on earth can be found on the continent that is currently under the ice in the area of the South Pole.
While this is not a widely accepted fact, there is evidence to support it. That civilisation gave rise to the Mayans and the Egyptians.

Could be the Chinese or the Indian civilizations that have both existed since 3-4 thousand years BC. Though some believe that the Iraqi nation that was formerly Babylon in bibilical times trumps that.
But in terms of a civilization that made contributions to humanity, society, and still exists today? China, by far.
