What to do? What to do? It's a great 2nd floor apartment, bright and light with high pitched ceilings. And I've put a lot of work into getting it set up just right. But now I don't know what to do. 20 years ago I lived above a couple who smoked for years, and came away with a smoke allergy which has not receded in time.

I was fine when the new guy moved in downstairs; I knew he smoked, but either he was trying to quit or taking it outside, because although I would see a cig in his mouth outdoors, it wasn't causing problems upstairs for me. But in the past month, something has happened: I am aware of the smokey smell the minute I walk in my door, andf on Monday it got so intense (sore throat, coughing flem, and itching so much I have to take Allavert.)
Can 't slee[ tonight worrying. It's going to get worse, because right now all my windows are open, the airconditioner fan is blowig and 2 toher fans are blowing. The open window thing won't work very well in winter. What ...

What am I supposed to do?
1. Speak to the man...that doesn't seem too wise. Speak to my landlady although I don't know what she can really do.
MOVE...although with my chronic fatigue and all the other presssures on my plate right now, I'm not sure how.

I don't know either. Offhand, I think that I would first approach my downstairs neighbor with the intent of just making him aware that you are extremely sensitive to smoke and that you just cant understand why you would be having issues of smoke coming up from the apartment below. I might go on to say that you understand is choice and his right to personal space, and that you are thinking about contacting the landlord to see if they could address this 'building maintenance' issue and then do. A thought.

Is there a section in your building that does not have smokers? I had to fight to stay in an area where there are no smokers. If your manager does not help you, that is just cause to move. That is a shame. Ask him to blow the smoke out his window. Good luck.
