True, if you are going to need tech support, go with one of the big names like Dell or Gateway. To save a ton of money just buy the parts and build your own if you can. They system I have when I went through Dell and Gateway, the cheapest estimate was approx $1,100.00 for just a case and stuff inside i.e. no monitor, keyboard or mouse. I built a slightly better one by getting the parts from places like www.newegg.com for a cost of only $700.00 and three hours of my time. I think it was worth it.
Again, I do have to commend Dell tech support's availability for being there 24/7. I will say their knowledge leaves something to be desired. A good friend of mine used to work their phone tech support and was getting yelled at alot for telling the customers things they didn't need to know. Their motto was to keep it as simple as possible, which was good since more than a few of their techs could only read from a set of flip cards when trying to diagnose problems.
