Michelangelo was Catholic. You don't get to paint the Sistine Chapel without being Catholic.

Not to put too fine a point on it - he practiced ROMAN catholicism. Catholic simply means universal and there were/are several "catholic" churches.

He was publicly Catholic he couldn't have worked without being Catholic. I don't think he was particularly pious though. Hard to be when it is forced.

officially he was a roman catholic, but probably he was an agnostic or didnt care much about religion as he did about art.

officially he was catholic. otherwise the pope wouldn't have given him the commission for the chapel ceiling.
