Neither. I think some things happen for a reason and other things are just random and cruel.

Nothing happens "for a reason" meaning that someone in a white coat and a clipbboard is ticking things off. But certainly we can trace many events to their causes - and often intervene and prevent them. As to cruel, I think indifferent is more accurate. Like the ocean - if it makes a hurricane, it's not to be mean, it's just what it does, like a dog peeing on a fire hydrant. Nature is not mean, but it sure is indifferent to how things affect you personally or me. Note too, tho, that not all luck is bad luck. Sometimes nature gives us a glorious sunny day or a loving relationship - hell, sex isn't too bad either, for example!

I dont believe anything is random! Take for example tossing a coin, which side it lands on depends not on chance, but on how hard you flick the coin, the angle you flick it, the wind/air resistance, the surface is lands on ect.
So everything has a prior cause, it must happen for a reason, not nessarly God, maybe just because of the big bang.

i guess this falls into the category like questions - do you believe in God or?? - bec scientifically you happen to believe that all must be random, i mean if it is not somebody must be devising all these. Then if there is this somebody it must be God..
or the worst of all, there is a God and he doesnt even care to devise anything and all happen random..
well, the choice depends on what will make you feel comfortable, mate.

your perception might be greatly affected by whether or not you believe in god.
which isn't to say i'm advocating or slamming a belief in god, it's just that i've noticed people with faith (religious or not) seem to believe that things happen for the reason and even that they happen for the best. just an observation.
right now, i'm leaning toward random, but there's always tomorrow.

I think that everything happens for a reason and we just have to wait for everything to tie in together...it's just that some of us die before that gets to happen
