It wouldn't be the best way to go about it and I'm not so sure it does anything to redeem his families honour but think Materazzi had it coming. The so called hard man went down like a sack of crap and fully deserved it. Shame Zidane had to see red which in itself was a bit of a joke because it seems as if none of the officials actually saw it happen except for after on the big screen which technically they can't take into account.

Didn't know that was what it was about but there is no excuse, Zidane should have had restraint, he is in a position where people look up to him and his country were relying on him. Of course, if he wanted a 'private word' with Materazzi afterwards then thats a different matter. Retaliation on the pitch never gets anyone anywhere, remember the David Beckham kick?

I would have thought that a player of Zidane's calibre would ignore stupid comments made by a player like Materazzi... I know he protecting his sisters honour but is Materazzi really worth the effort!?

No. He should have just ignored it. It wasn't the worst insult I've ever heard anyway. This happens in soccer every day and if everybody reacted the same way, there wouldn't be a player left on the field. However I don't think we should let it detract from what a brilliant player Zidane was. There are not too many players who haven't done something stupid at some time in their career. His misfortune was that it happened in the World Cup final in his very last game.

Temper caused this unfortunate spectacle in front of millions of
viewers. If he had the urge to revenge Materazzi, he should have
done it after the game, but If so, I think his temper would have
burnt all adrenaline. Both were wrong but only Zidane‘s part
was visible. It is saddening but he still is a national hero, more so
than before.

No way, he should have done it for the fun of it!
Not blame it on him insulting his sister!
Personally I would have run off the pitch, picked up the world cup and use it to bash over the head of Materazzi

I think he was wrong but then in the future players will be more careful to what they say on the pitch. Those guys are getting paid millions and for that price they should focus on just playing football for 90 minutes instead of constently insulting each other.

i don't think some people realise....THESE THINGS GET SAID IN FOOTBALL ALL THE TIME...it's nothing. footballers always make snide comments about each other, especially at premiership level i.e. "some of the guys on the squad say your sister's well up for it, think i should have a go?" or "i've won the european cup and the premiership. what have you won?" if you can't take the heat then get out of the kitchen

no he was well out of order, if david beckham can take abuse from fans about his wife and turn his back on it a fellow professional like zidane should be able to do it as well. its part of the game to insult and wind another person up
