I've had friends that I was separated from by great distances. Sometimes the connections faded until being practically not there, just to spring back to being regular emails and phone calls. Just continue to send the emails and letters. Sometimes you are apart long enough you just lose interest in people that you haven't seen for a long time and you don't know if you ever will, so you just put them on your Christmas card list and stay in touch sporadically.

Everyone has to work on keeping it together. Even with the best of efforts it still will be difficult. You begin to get involved in your lives apart and the days just pass and pass.
I know for myself. I have a couple of real good friends that I love dearly and want to keep our friendship fresh and active. I email them on a somewhat regular basis and call from time to time and send pictures. They still care but the responses ( to me) are lacking and it seem to be up to me to continually make the contact.
Never the less I still do my part and will continue to do so. They are important to me and I want to remain close regardless of the distance.

the relationship is fading because the COMMUNICATION is lessened..... we all know that communication is one good way to maintain a healthy relationship...... it's really hard to maintain a distant relationship.....
