In Germany you don't have to tell the landlord about rabbits or cats. He has no right to forbid this animals as pets. And I just want to know how it is handled in the US.

You have to tell them because it is their house and they want to know who and what is living in it. If you don't tell them and they have to go in during an emergency without warning and they find the rabbit. They are going to be upset. You should take the time to write something about your rabbit. You should say it lives in cage and is litter box trained and how you bunny proof things and include the cutest picture you have.

It's been since 1992 that I lived in Germany. But yes you should tell the landlord anyway. Here, yes you have to disclose that information to the landlord or ask if pets are allowed BEFORE you move in.

In the US it is usual to inform a landlord, but small pets are usually not considered a problem. You may have to pay a bit more of a rental deposit fee in the case of the pet causing any damage to carpet, etc.

Yes, you do. You have to report any and everything (*and* "-one") living with you. It's called both common courtesy and greed.
