When I am at home I use a Vaseline brand handcream, and when at work (I am a secretary) I use Avon hand cream; does using two different brands lessen, increase or make no difference to the effects?

It doesn't make any difference, what hand products you use during the day, the good thing is that you are keeping your hands nourish and looking after your hands.

It wont make any difference.
Despite all the fancy advertising, all creams are the same, and work in the same way.
They seal the top layer of the epidermis, so moisture wont escape, that's all.
The only time you should watch out for are with anti aging products with active ingredients such as AHA's, Boswelox etc, but very few hand creams and only a few anti aging face creams have these products, and all of them are clearly labled on the front of the bottle.
Even then, the only effect will be that if you have sensitive skin it might be irritated, that all.
But using two different products wont make any difference.

No no...using a combination of two, three, or five lotions isn't going to change the effect they have on your skin. Actually, I know for hair, it is actually good to switch up your brands so your hair doesn't get too used to one single product. It is probably beneficial if anything.
