i just got a ferret from a girl at my work ( she wasn't taking good care of him- ) and when i first got him ( skippy - my ferret) he was SO sweet and affectionate- he actually liked to be petted and cuddled, he never bit or scratched- but latley, when I try pick him up, and put him back in his cage- he tries to bite me.

i usually let him stay out for 2 hours- and he has a 4' x 4' cage.
why the sudden change?

gve him some space when he comes out to play. don't pick him up to much. You should pick him up a little though, so he will re-adjust to you. If he nips, put him back in his cage for 5 minutes, then let him out again. Repeat as often as necessary. Ferrets are smart, he should see a connection between biting and having to go in the cage. It's a ferret time-out!!

Take Skippy to a vet to be checked out generally when they start biting for no apparent reason its because they are in pain. Since hes a new ferret its a good idea to have him checked out by a ferret knowledgable vet anyway. Good Luck

You are doing the right thing by asking these question, but there is so much more we need to know as to the actual day Skippy goes through.Would suggest trying http://ferretcentral.org for starters and getting a magazine called simply FERRETS at http://www.custmag.com click on this link and click under FERRET MAG go to subscriptions

Biting is a common trait with ferrets. I broke mine of the habit by sticking my finger into a jalapeno pepper so that some of the juice was on my finger, like always he bit at it. It was also the last time he bit a person. Incidentally, I tried bitter apple first and it had absolutely no effect.

Besides thinking about visiting a vet, you might also want to check that you haven't changed anything about yourself as well. I had a female ferret who, when I first saw her, was very sweet and affectionate. After I brought her home, she would literally attack me whenever I picked her up, but was very sweet to my boyfriend. It took a while to figure out that she absolutely loathed my bodywash. Once I stopped using it, she stopped attacking me.

you know to much of a good thing can go wrong at times and might be the case with your ferret or he picked up a smell on you he does not like his food or not getting enough another idea is he does not know that his ex owner give him to you. and he might be confussed what is going on.

Are you neglecting skippy or have you gained another pet?

Sometimes new pets get a little ansey because they are new and when they are introduced to other animals or other people (friends) they will get aggressive. New pets need some time to get used to their surroundings and owners.

You may want to make sure that he is ready to go back into his pen. They have a tendency to act like toddlers when it is time to go back into the pen sometimes. When Mine act like that, I just wait about fifteen to twenty minutes [usually how long it takes me to find where i stashed their treats], then get each of them a treat as I am puting them up. You might want to make sure that you have him in a high traffic room of your home, as they like sticking their noses into as much of your business as possible. [I can't get anything to eat or drink that my little girl ferret wants, and whines, for, and if it's those nice midnight snacks . . . I really think that she intends to wake the whole house just to get me into trouble. ;)

while President Van Buren met the Prophet he asked Joseph Smith what the adaptation became into between Mormonism and different religions of the day. The Prophet spoke back that the "mode of baptism, and the present of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands" have been the undemanding modifications.
