Fill up a sock with dried beans or rice. Tie it tightly and warm it in the microwave until it is warm, not hot. Lay this across your baby's belly. Sometimes this would work for me. I think the baby liked the warmth and slight pressure on his tummy.
I also did alot of walking with the baby lying tummy down across my forearm.

Colic is a very old and un-known disturbance for young babes. My Mum often said that "colic" doesn't exist. Rather it is a break in the original pattern of feeding and/or comfort.

Often babes will be comforted by "white noise". Sounds associated with the womb. Such noises/sounds can be duplicated via: The use of a common air fan, hair dyer, clothes dryer, washing machine or vacuum cleaner can give the soft, humming/rhythmic vibrations and continence of sound heard within the womb.

There is also an infant chair available that gives options like: heart beat; water sounds and vibrations, all together or separate.

I have used this chair and all of these methods for all my children and I have to say that it gave :"them" so much comfort.

When every my children seemed to be un-consolable? I would turn the vacuum cleaner on, or turn the shower head on, or take them near the clothes dryer, or put them in their car seats and take them for a drive.

I have also discovered that playing a CD of "Rain and Thunder" is absolutely the most peace and comfort they can get. My children fall to sleep within minutes............

There are many sounds to comfort colicy babes...........

My youngest daughter was a bit colicy and I would put her across my legs belly down and lightly bounce her. Your baby could be constipated also. Is your baby's bowel movements normal over the last couple of days as well as today? You could try baby apple juice, that seemed to do the trick with mine. If your really losing sleep, and baby has no relief, call your pediatrician for sure. How I remember those days. Good Luck

Other than patience and ear plugs??!!

Try a warm bath - it soothed for a bit and my baby used to pass a lot of wind when he got out - both ways! Whether it was the warm water or he was just relaxed enough for the muscles to get it shifted I don't know! But it relieved him (and me!) for a bit.

Infacol - that was good. Get from a chemist. They will have other suggestions too. Some remedies work better depending on breast or bottle (and babies can get it bad regardless of how fed)

If you can get someone else to take baby for a bit when they're starting then at least you'd get break and cope better. It is not a good time!!

Hope it passes by soon.x

It's been estimated that up to 25% of all infants have colic. It usually starts between the 3rd and 6th week after birth, and goes away on its own by the time the baby is 3 months old. If the baby seems to still have colic after that time, the infant might have some sort of health problem.

I cant help ya too much but someone I know had a colicky baby and her doc recommended that she start to vacum or record a running vacum cleaner on a cassette and play it or just run your vacum because it soothes the baby. Wierd I know but it was the only miracle for her seriously. Oh yeah, and as a last resort, take the baby for a ride in the car that almost always knocks em out lol! Good luck!

hi..my first was colic, a trick i did with him was to give him chamomile tea or a night time tea. Put just a hint of sugar and a little of the babys' milk, mix together and that helped alot with me. Also giving a warm almost too hot(dont burn the baby!) bath will also soothe to sleep. I have also learned that sometimes you have to just keep your patience and it will soon blow over.
Good luck! And I greatly sympathize with you!

i feel for you because i went through colic with my second child. i gave him mylican drops, which worked sometimes, plus we used hyland colic tablets which dissolve under the tongue which relieved the gas, and helped them to go to sleep and the other thing i used was a washcloth that i had wet and put it in the microwave for 25 seconds then wrapped in a little bigger towel and placed in a ziploc bag and put it over his blanket on his tummy so as not to burn him. i found this helped alot for him to pass the gas. we had colic from about 4 weeks to almost 11 months old. you could also try the little music box from a mobile.
good luck and be patience

my neice was so bad with colic that my older sister used to stay with me for days at a time!!! I put her in the baby swing and ran the sweeper until she fell asleep. Alot of people say that a sweeper is too loud for a new baby but this has worked for generations in my family so i would try it.-dont lose your patience colic doesn't last forever-it gets easier!

There was just an ad on tv for Dintinox Colic Drops, worth giving a try? Or try the new Johnson's sleep time bubble bath.
