A few good examples:

Verizon disabled mp3 file transfer their V3c razr phones, and disabled bluetooth file transfer entirely as they have a policy of doing.

Nokia 6256i:
Verizon disabled: mp3 as ringtone, java support to download games, all the play controls for the mp3 player

I have my theories.
Sorry all my examples came from Verizon because they arent the only provider that disables features, almost all of them do to some extent.

So I restate the question..

For Verizon Wireless, a lot of it has to do w/ steering you to their branded or partnered products, which means paying for their usage.

The altruistic view would be that, instead of having to relearn how to use a phone if you switch from Motorola to Samsung to LG to Nokia, why not have a single Verizon Wireless UI? Unfortunately, that means ignoring some whiz-bang feature a manufacturer might've put on the phone that could make your phone more versatile. Not a good answer, really, but that's being kind.

i have heard all the answers prior to this response.

first, not all phones can carry the memory necessary for all things.. ie (motorola v710) in its attempts.. therefore, a trade-off must be given upon the hierarchy for its capacity...

should this phone specialize in megapixel for higher clarity in picture/video?

dual speaker... mp3 or v-cast music (both!!! you say) then what to lose?

java, larger screen, game support, less standby & talk time due to battery life & its consumption to utilize those items..

verizon does protect its phone from unwanted abuse... viruses & nefarious attempts to corrupt the network.. so unadultery access wont be given..

bluetooth profiles only support some much upon bandwidth (which is the short answer)...

I have the same problem and issues with Verizon, I had a Razr V3 on Cingular and could transfer photos without any problem but on verizon I can hardly do anything. Its a shame because I may not renew with them because of it.
