Good friendship often turns into marriage. If you are planning for your marriage then better ask him what type of girl he prefers for his to be bride. By this time you must have known him a lot. Find out your own compatiability and if both of you are ready for marriage/life partner then propose him.
As both you are good friends, fear of rejection is less.

if you think you are in love with him and if you think both are compatible for marriage ,
and if you think he is not attached anywhere else , tell your parents / elder siblings that you have such a friend. let them make discreet enquiries , if you so wish. or go and take all the risk yourself??
