I hurt my shoulder snowboarding in December 05. I fell backwards and hit it on a mogul. I went to the Dr. and nothing was broken. I just tore my ligament. How long does this take to heal? Are there exercises I should do to strengthen it?

I have a separated joint in my shoulder. I had a seizure and fell on the concrete. No one believed me when I kept telling them it was hurt, until I insisted 10 days later, they do more xrays. Have they done just basic xrays or made you bend and twist your arm around to make it hurt and then snapped an xray from there? Also, mine was healing as fast as it should be (happened 4 months ago), so we did an MRI to rule out a torn rotator cuff. Did your doctor ever send you to an orthopedic surgeon?? It's hard not to use the arm and really hard to sleep!! You have my symathies!!

Have you had it evaluated by an shoulder specialist or orthopedist? Do you have a a small or noticeable bump on the shoulder? How long was it before you gained range of motion? Did you dislocate the shoudler or did you separate it (it involves different joints). It soulds like shoulder separation to me.

I'm in the same boat, although I haven't had that problem nearly as long.

Separated shoulder, just over a month ago. Mine was apparently partial. Yours may be more severe. I'd get it evaluated at the least. Your injury might be severe, and you may want to consider operation, but then again, the shoulder surgery option may prove to be the worst option.

I'm doing some rehab right now. I'm not sure if it is doing any good, but we'll see. The exercises they may give me may not be any better than this link.

I've tried the exercises on that page and after a few times my shoulders did get better.

BTW, here's some forums where people discuss their shoulder injuries... (one's definitely austrailian, the other, I'm not sure).

Go to another doctor, perferably an orthopedic surgeon, and get another opinion. Did you have an MRI done? Also, physical therapy should have been ordered for you, they will tell you the right exercises to be doing as to not cause further injury. I know that some injuries take a long time to heal, but something doesn't sound right here to me.
