I don't know why some have a positive and sometimes the other is a negative correlation. Help please!

Positive correlation means that as one thing increases so does the other - like how much you drink and your blood alcohol level. That scatter plot goes up from left to right. Negative correlation means that as one thing increases, the other decreases, such as age and how fast you can run. That kind of scatter plot goes down from left to right.

it just means your Y values decrease as your X values increase.

like graphing a line with a negative slope.

example: the more you study, the less likely are the kind of person who does not care about your grades.

so people who dont study tend to not care about there grade.

people who study for hours and hours tend to care about there grade.


it does not mean that there is less correlation. this is a whole different mathematical idea.

It's simple. . .if (b) is negative then it will have a negative correlation (slope). For example, people who own more than 5000 dollars tend to spend more money; thus, the slope will go down because a decrease of money is occurring

When the value of one variable decreases while the other variable increases. The data points will show a downward slope.
