The first reason for the importance of English is that it is spoken, as their first or second language, by more people in the world than any other language. English has become the language of science and technology and is used by scientists throughout the world to communicate. There are many reasons for this, English has a very forgiving grammar and mistakes can be made in its use without the whole sentence losing its meaning. It is also the most exact language in the world, it is possible to write about something without there being any possible misinterpretation of its meaning. English also has the largest vocabulary of any language and so it has the greatest descriptive power.. These are just a few reasons for the place of English among world languages which, I hope, gives you some part of an answer to your question.
