I think that celebrities should only be role models for their jobs. If you're looking to be a basketball player, look at how Micheal Jordan played basketball. But don't be dissapointed or say that he let people because he cheated on his wife or had a gambling problem. Those things have little if anything to do with his profession, and you don't know Michael personally. I simply don't understand why celebrities are looked upon as general role models.

Modern technology and the relentless scrutiny of hte media are also to blame. At no other time in history have famous people (including world leaders - look at how savaged poor George bush is for every stuff-up he makes!) been under the microscope. It is such a crowded market place for celebrity that
a) we end up knowing every facet of their lives (good and bad) and
b) causes use celebrities to further themselves as the cannot get enough exposure alone.

I think it is because they possess a life that most people dont have and they think it is glamorous and would be so nice to have all that money and all that camera time etc. I think that most people who look to stars as role models are looking for that lifestyle and they will try and mimic ALL aspects of that person life. Like with Jordan not only his skills on the court will be copied but also his life outside of the court as well. What people need to realize is that everyone is differen and everyone no matter famous or not has a lot more going on in their lives then we ever see and we need to start focusing our energies on just being ourselves and stop trying to be like everyone else.

Celebrities are in the lime light everyday, so people make them their role models. People place these people on TV on the highest pedestal, and expect them to stay there in their perfect form. but once these celebrities make one Human mistake they are looked down upon and their names get slandered.

Celebs don't ask people to look up to them as role models, but it's natural that some people do.
