Well, lets look at some facts:
1. it gets 25 to 29 mpg (I get 26 but I really drive it)
2. it handles better than just about anything on the road(I've owned vettes and audi's and it handles better than both)
3. I have made a couple of modifications:
a. a bra(factory mazda) www.trussville.buymazdaparts.com
b. windshield screen(again mazda)
c. window film
d. window and sunroof vent shades
All the above except the window shades were purchased at the mazda website. They are way cheaper than the mazda store where I bought car.
vent shades from www.autopartswarehouse.com BE CAREFULL THAT THEY GET RIGHT PART!

other ammunition: Consumer Reports just tested the 06 version of your car. plus: Audi3, Saab, and two dodge chargers. the mazda not only beat the others, but it was at the top of the list of 15 or so " Luzury Compact Hatchbacks"

It has the highest reliability rating by Consumer Reports of any car in it's class except the Honda Civic(but just barely) and it's WAY faster and better handling.
So you know: Consumer Reports ratings are derived from actual owners and the problems they have encountered(around 750,000 owners).
my specs:
I'm 62
ex Navy Seal
engineer
ride a crotch rocket
spent 4 months researching to dicide on this car

had mine since April, 06, and think it's the best car for the money I've ever bought.
I live on a roller coaster(out in the country, hilly, twisty roads. I've already scrubbed 15% of the rubber off the front tires and can keep up with crotch rockets on my road.

bosox - dulcrayon said it all. You buy the car for you not your friends. And if they haven't ridden in it yet I believe you'd do them a favor by taking them for a spin or better still, let them take it out without you. But insure them first of course.
Before I sign out, remember to drive safely always - that means do a vehicle check every time you take the car out: look under and around the vehicle for children, animals and objects. And I vote for dulcrayon as the best answer. The old stinky seal beat us loud and clear here. Great response, especially for to a person in need of consolation.

I like the Mazda 3 - sedan, wagon.

I may go Zoom-Zoom as my next car once my situation clears up. Either that or another BMW, except my pockets are no longer deep enough for a Bimmer.
