I signed up to be an egg donor. I honestly did not think I would even get picked and I'll be quite frank I did see the advertisment in the train..so yes the 5,000 was semi appealing. After signing up with an agency and getting picked just two months later. I'm actually feeling thrilled about helping a familiy. I know there are some risks that this involves. I guess I just want to know everyones opinion about this. Have you ever been an egg donor, recipient, etc. I talked to my parents about this, my mom really doesnt agree with it. My father said do what you want, but don't ever tell anyone you date or friends. Like I should be ashamed of this. If I went to work at a homeless soup kitchen on weekends I doubt he'd tell me to keep it a secret. But now that hes said that I've been hesitant about telling the new guy I'm dating. Please give your input! Thanks.

Not sure about the going rate for this in your area, but it seems like you should be getting a little more than that, there is a risk for hyperstimulation of the ovaries and it's not a pleasant procedure. I hope you already have children of your own?

I would consider being an egg donor for someone I knew well, my best friend, my sister, my cousin. For a stranger, no. But I think it's great there are people are are willing to do it, because in this day and age there is certainly a need for it.

If you don't tell him it's always going to be on your mind. If you do you run the risk that he might be freaked out. If it is something that you believe in, then you can feel free to tell the truth, and you only want to be with someone who believes in you right? If your only doing it for the money, how badly do you need the money? I do think this is an honorable thing you are doing, I would personally do it. My husband is very against it. So I couldn't... Ultimately your not going to get the answer your looking for by anyone but yourself. Some family's truly are in need of an egg. So someone has to do it..

first off you should be receiving closer to $20,000. i think you should check with other places before you commit to this for only 5,000. also if you have not yet had a child you should not qualify for any such program.
i personally wouldn't do it for several reasons. first the fact that the unused fertilized eggs are basically going to be either destroyed or frozen indefinitely which in my book is equivalent to abortion. second having a biological child out there somewhere that i would never know is a disturbing thought, it's not like donating blood or even a kidney it is a child. third it poses a significant health risk to poke a needle into you're ovary.
this is just my opinion. i wish you luck with you're decision

Here is a question I would ask myself. Am I okay with knowing that there could be a child out there in the world who came from my egg? If you are going to go ahead with the donation you need to be absolutely honest with your boyfriend/husband. They would deserve to know and it would clear up any future complications that might arise in the future if this child comes to find you.

I applaud you on helping a childless couple fall pregnant. Personally I don't think I would make it public knowledge because it actually has nothing to do with anyone!

Me personally, I wouldn't do it for any amount of money......but that's my choice. If you're educated, I hope you weighed the pros and cons for you, so no matter what your personal decision, it'll be a smart one.

This is a intersting question...I have thought about doing this also.

I will have to ask my husband what he thinks about it.
