Referring to lots of movies portraying different centuries, street markets has always being around. Each farmer will produce different types of food as it sells these types of food to others, while buying other types with the $.

Before street markets, each person would just farm all the food their need or barter things for food.....

Neighbor also commonly shared or bartered for food shares at barn raisings. Neolithic man met seasonally at trade crossroads and villages and future market style distribution was born.
