I've asked my friends that many times, and the conclusion is "People who hurt people are usually hurt". There you go. Life aint hard to live, just live to the fullest and enjoy it. Dont waste your time thinking and stressing about it.

Cruelty comes from selfishness, we can put others before ourselves or join the 'I'm alright Jack' brigade. In groups, people who normally wouldn't be cruel, gang together (think bullies). Greed, want of power etc makes people/groups/nations cruel. Nations are made up of 'us' so we must not let the power hungry win, BUT......the kind, the considerate, the good do not get media coverage or are generally noticed and there are millions of good people so look for them as a true example of humanity and if we used these people (our neighbours) as role models, the good will overcome the cruel.

People are cruel because they have a low self esteem. Sometimes because they want to fit in with their friends. They feel that if they don't act like that towards someone, then they will be outcasted from their "Clique". Sadly this is usually true, as everyone is trying to constantly out do each other these days....

I cant answer that as your definition of cruel may be different to mine and I am not you.

But there are many reasons why and if you keep on asking why then you will never get an acceptable answer, the answers only produce more questions and those questions you will ask yourself constantly, it is not because they are evil, or because you are good or evil.

Just dont ask why, have a cornetto

Your antenna is picking up cruelty. Change yourself and your view of people, and you will not see much cruelty, except for the atrocities that are committed by the rulers of countries.

Find out why you are cruel sometimes, you'll know why people are that way too.

Because it is tolerated.

People are often hesitant to take a stand. They don't understand the cost of cruelty, and instead reward agression with "understanding". Often this encourages future cruelty.

Pacifism favors the agressive party. But in war, it is easier and more efficient to defend territory than to take territory. So war discourages aggression more than pacifism. If someone is willing to go to war, then that discourages acts of cruelty against them.

If I may break the question down (philisophically)-"why," and "are people so cruel"-we get that be it that people are cruel, there is no reason why people are cruel, nor "so cruel."

Because they are not well instructed how to govern their life the best way. The best economy of personal energy results with joy. It is constructive not destructive.
Start to give your the best in anything you do (thoughts, feelings and deeds) this will preserve you from cruelty.

sometimes people have too much time and money and nothing to do. sometimes people get duped by someone, then they start being cruel to everyone. sometimes they believe bad manners are calls of havens.

most people like that are completely insecure. They feel the only way to make themselves feel better is by taking it out on someone and making them feel as bad as they do.
If someone is especially evil to you it's probably because they are jealous of you in some aspect or another.
