People who have bipolar disorder can do that.
Their moods can go from high to low.
Normally, people suffering from depression do not just get over it.
There have been many documentaries on this subject lately and depression is a debilitating disease.
If the person did suddenly get better, great, however that seems unlikely.

As a psychology student, I've researched depression a bit, and someone suddenly seeming fine after a prolonged depression is a strong predictor of suicide. So if you see someone who's just inexplicably happy after living in the pits, they may just want a last moment of joy before they kill themselves.

The reality is that depression is a complex illness with genetic, chemical, neurological and psychological factors. Research has shown that the best treatment for depression is usually a combination medication and psychotherapy to address the imbalances in the body and the mind. There is no quick fix.

From a lady here that suffered from depression and still prone to bouts of depression you may have days were you are happy and feel normal to days where you are in a deep despair..It is not common for people with normal depression to make a recovery like overnight, but sometimes with cognative thinking and looking at things a diffrent way makes a huge diffrence to the way you feel, I found this after medication and therapy looking at things a diffrent way made a huge diffrence.

I hope for you that you are on the mend and if you need to talk please email me!

You can have an instant shift. But you have to go beyond Drugs that mask and conventional therapies that are quite ineffective. You see consciousness is energy. every time you think about something over and over again you keep sending it energy, so in essence you keep feeding enrgey to the problem and reinforce it. With science and spirituality merging again we are able to see how our thoughts(consciousness) affects our reality, literally. See "Messages from Water" by Masaru Emoto or watch the movie"What the Bleep Do We Know" Then you'll understand how certain techniques like SRT (www.spiritualresponse.com) can clear any depression instantly. Peace be with you...

It depends. Someone who is depressed for a short while, due to a loss or some problem may find that their situation gets resolved and they relax.

Then there is cronic depression that lasts more than 2 weeks. If it persists then medication may be needed.

I think people do have ups and downs. I guess it depends on the length and depth of the depression. There are many people who can pull themselves out of depression by exercise, counseling, discussions, etc. So, you could just be fine. Watch yourself though.

NO!
(Damn arm chair psychologists!!)
Depression is generally caused by a chemical imbalance with external, emotional influences. Unless you change these biggies all at once...no you can not just BAM become all better.

Listen, I think its great that you are seeking information on a disease that apparently is effecting you or someone close to you but asking information from people other than trained specialists is not a good thing.

If you do want reliable information ask your therapist or go to NIMH the National Institute of Mental Health and search depression.

Good Luck to ya'!

Yes, it is possible. All it takes is a glimpse of a different perspective.

If one is constantly under the pressure of a problem in his/her life, looking at the problem in a different way, or rationalizing the steps to solving the problem can bring about an instant relief of that pressure.
