I live in a city where the mains water is quite silty or sandy. Over time, it blocks up the water pipes so it gets to the point where the water pressure coming out of the taps is very low. Does anyone know if there is a product that can be added to the tank to :
a) clean out the pipes
b) solidify the silt before it gets into the pipes.

And/or, if there's a recognised method of clearing pipes by blowing air through them or something similar.
NB I live in Africa, so please don't be offering your plumbing services if you are in Europe or the US!

Try removing the supply lines from the faucet and put it in a bucket and tap on the pipes to loosen up the deposits.Compressed air should work to. Some kind of filter on the main wouldn't hurt.

You need to put a filter on the incoming water. This will solve your problem once & for all. When the water pressure goes down, just change the filter.

I pour hot boiling water when my sink pipe got stuck with garbage. But you need to do it in a high pressure.
