Start and Run once a week , Drive vehicle for 15-> 20 mins to get it up to normal operating temperatures .
As others have said , Use the reverse gears as well as all Forward gears .

How long a vacation? If just a month or so, I wouldn't worry about it. If more, I'd start it at least once a week.
IMPORTANT: it would be best not to just start it and let it idle. It would be good to actually drive it for at least 5-10 miles at least once a week.
This will prevent it from getting "lot rot" where the brakes trash out, the exhaust rots off, and the tires rot away and get flat spots.
Just running it for a short time can also make acid build up in the crankcase, possibly destroying the motor before its time!!

I would start it and drive it around the block at least once a month to keep the battery charged the engine lubricated and the transmission lubed throughly. Automatic transmission have a tendency to stick if left idle for long periods of time.

What a great friend you are! Start it up at least every two weeks and drive it around the block. Don't forget to back it up as well.

dont start the car just to let it run for a second or two. let it run untill it gets enough time for the cooling fan to kick on. if you just start and let it run for a second the exhaust will build up condensation and rust the system out. let the car run long enough to get the exhaust hot

Once a month should be sufficient. Drive it around the block for a few minutes.
