Genes and the melanin: the more we have, the less the sun affects our skin. Even the light skinned blacks tend to age gracefully despite the fact they aren't as dark as other blacks. All the women in my family aged very well (and I have a LOT of women in my family) regardless of whether they were light or dark. My family varied a lot in color but they all still look beautiful!! And we know how to work it baby!!

I don't know the reason, but I agree with you.Look at all the "older" black singers such as Patti LaBelle,Gladys Knight, and others that are still absolutely beautiful.Could be that they aren't obsessed like us white women to be out in the sun all the time to get a tan, which is very damaging to our skin.

i think it has something to do with the pigment of skin they have. darker skin colors are more protected from the aging damages of the sunlight.
