go to turbo d16.com they will help alot
other wise
build the motor
(pistons, rods, valves, valve springs, titanium retainers, cam,arp headstuds, thicker head gasket, get the head ported .40 over, get a CAI and a proformance intake mani, header, high flo cat, full catback exaust with all that done and it in time the motor will easily push 180hp+
if you want more hp then build the motor above and boost the hell outta it
ive personally owned a turbo SOHC and it's fun
my set up was
Built d16z6 (like above) and a home made turbo kit
with the proper tuning the motor pumped out 395hp and 301lbs of tq at 19psi
i would run 12's all day long in it and it was funny to be able to race and beat DOHC's (B16+B18+H22, ect......)
with a sohc
youll be suprised what a little boost can do to any engine

The EX engine is not that good for a base engine to start with, the limit of that engine is low. In term of NA power you will not get much out of it. But, if you want some fun, you can put a turbo in it. my friend have the same car with some cut-and-paste turbo bart from ebay and it is fast. RUN LOW BOOST

The D16Y8 engine dies pretty fast if you drive it hard. My last two have lasted only about 40 000 miles. This is red-line shifting about 10% of time. Not a good hot-rod engine. You need to beef up the connecting rods if you are going to stress this engine. I got a JDM B18C to go back in, but I don't know if I'll go that route.

Find a really high cliff(or bridge), and push the car over the edge. It should go pretty fast on the way down.
P.S.
I owned a '98 Ford ZX2 2.0 w/ a 5spd manuel tranny, K&N air filter, and a duel chamber Flowmaster muffler and I never lost to honda.

go to a honda civic forum and ask this, you will get better answers, but a turbo or nitrous is the best hp bang for the buck
