The best teams ever in English football have been Manchester United and Liverpool. Man Utd. had a great team in the earlier part of the century and they were all youngsters too. They might have gone on to be the best ever club side if they had played many years together. Liverpool had the best team of the 80's and that side is probably the best side in recent english football. Man U ruled the 90's and they did it with a mix of youngsters who came up the ranks and other experienced world class players. Personally, I believe Man Utd. pips Liverpool to the title of 'Best English Team', but not by much. Presently, I believe that the Man Utd. first 11 is stronger than the Liverpool first 11. But when considering the whole squad, I would place Liverpool over Man U.

Liverpool were the best team of the 80's. But they have slid since then. Admittedly they won the Champions League last year but apart from that their form in the premiership has been a bit dodgy. They didn't even qualify for a Champions League place after their victory, only got in by having another team put out. They have in fact never won the premiership. Man Utd have been a bit off for the past 2 seasons but no one can deny that they have been the team to beat throughout the 90's and into the 2000's. This season Utd have started like they mean business, something they failed to do the last 2 seasons. So overall I think that Man Utd are the best of the 2. Whether they will give Chelsea a run for their money this season remains to be seen. But I hope so.

Man utd I know Liverpool may have won more on paper but Man utd are the team now, they have many players and a lot of them come up through the ranks rather than buying all the time which is a great acheivment plus with the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo Ferdinand they have a great team.

Adhi from India you idiot!!! How do Liverpool not have as many fans as Utd? Secondly we have the most passionate fans, Thirdly have Man Utd won 18 League Trophies, 5 European Cups, 7 FA Cups, 6 League/Milk Cups & 2 Uefa Cups, i think NOT. Liverpool are by far the most superior club in the country and in the world. Only R Madrid have won more trophies than Liverpool.

If 'best' means most succesful, then statistically Liverpool. United's record in Europe in particular does not even come close.
You won't get many balanced views on this because opposing fans so hate each other.
In the end it is a personal choice - Charlton, Best and Law; or Dalglish, Rush and Souness? Or Giggs, Keano and Beckham, or Gerrard, Owen and Carragher?

Litttle story : United beat Liverpool 2-1 in the 1977 FA CUP Final to deny them the 'Double'. Four days later Liverpool played Moenchengladbach in Rome for the European Cup. As the teams walk out, there is a banner that reads : United this is the BIG cup. That sort of sums it up for me. Needless to say Liverpool became European Champions and United looked on enviously.
