I'm doing a paper and I need some points about how the Mac has some downfalls. I personally don't have one but I know that sometimes online videos don't work for people, but that's about all I can think of.

Just general things would be great. Not too in depth techy talk.
Thanks in advance!

I agree, Macs are pretty awesome, so are Ferarri's, but even the coolest Ferarri has some downfalls.

The main downfall with Macs is the lack of support from the outside world. The smaller marketshare and the price of developing software that is written so differently between the two systems, Mac users get left out. The main one that I can think of is Yahoo. The fact that they took 2 and a half YEARS to release a new Messenger for Mac (2.5.3 to 3.0b1), while the Windows counterpart was recieving updates every few months with new features each time. That would be half of a paper right there! Also, the Yahoo News is not supported on any Mac browser.

Another specific compatibility issue is with viewing internet pages with semi-transparent panes in Safari, like the fancy ones people get for their Myspace. There is a work-around for it...by using Firefox.

Some companies don't provide their gaming software to Mac users. This has always been a big issue with devout PC users. There are some games, like Myst (and Quake, i think) that are available for the Macintosh, and they play real well (so i've heard) on the Mac.

Another downfall may be price, although that's gettting harder and harder to argue. Basically, it's more of a quality standard, and so the least expensive product on the line is more expensive than the lowest priced model with a PC company, but the quality of the mac far exceeds the quality of the PC, even at greater levels.

Another downfall might be the fact that Macs are hard to find in the consumer world. Unless you live near one of the few Apple stores, or a CompUSA, or I've seen Macs in a couple teacher supply stores, you're out of luck. What if you want to go give the Mighty Mouse a feel to see if you want one? If you don't live in those areas, you'll just have to pull it up on the internet and put your hand against the screen!

I wouldn't consider this as that much of a downfall because i like the way Apple designs their stuff. I get so excited when I get something new from them, because even the boxes are designed so well that even when you open the box, it's very asthetically pleasing. BUT, a downfall might be lack of configuration, especially for laptops. I've seen laptops on the PC side with analog video cards built in, and some other cool things. On the PC side, you have a lot more choices, but each one of those has it's flaws.

Well, that's all i can think of for now. Good luck on the paper!

Lots of games don't run on MacOS X. Anything by EA for example won't work. There are some popular ones like World of Warcraft, but the majority of games are designed for PC instead.

A technical sidenote: Intel based Macs can run Windows using the Boot Camp software. However this is still in beta (not completed) at the moment so yes, it is possible to run Windows based applications on the new Intel based Macs. It requires a separate partition on your hard drive and your own retail copy of Windows XP and will end up costing you more than a standard PC. Macs do not come with this when you buy it off the shelf so it's something you still have to install yourself.

The biggest downfall to using a Mac is you realize how much sooner you could have been using one. Windows users react as if you told them you moved to Mars as well and often refuse to believe anything is real outside their Windows world. Flip4Mac allows you to play Windows video files.
